Three Months and Counting

Well I have passed the three-month mark since my surgery. The  likelihood of a re-herniation to that particular disc has now dropped dramatically.  For the past three months I have been super careful to obey the “rules” of my recovery plan.  I definitely did not want to have to repeat this process.

I am 500% better now than I was before the operation.  I am glad I did it.  If I had it to do over I would do it again.

While I was prepared for lots of pain post surgery I was pleasantly surprised when just a few days after I came home I was off all pain medication.  What I had not anticipated was the nerve pain that soon appeared in my foot.  It comes and goes but mostly stays and it changes to some degree just about every day.  I have tried a couple of prescription medications to deal with this pain and while I could get it dulled down a little I could not get rid of it totally.  So I did some research and made up my own cocktail of antioxidants to add to the prescription drugs.  The cocktail includes Vitamin B Complex, Acetyl L Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid.  From my research I learned that I may have a reduction of painful symptoms in a week or two.  By the second day I was pain-free and able to walk with no limp for the fist time since April.  This is fantastic!

I did check this cocktail with my doctor and it is a safe solution to my problem.  The only issue I have noticed so far is that it makes me sleep really hard at night.  I like some good sleep but the past couple of nights when Ethan has come into our room in the middle of the night I haven’t heard him at all.  Plus, I’ve been sleeping until 9:30 in the morning which is just not going to work at my house.  So, if I can just work this sleep thing out, I may have a good solution until the nerve pain subsides.

I am grateful to the Lord for progress!

  1. Good to hear your report. I’m so happy you are feeling better. I need a cocktail for my back. Are you able to get those at a drug store?
