My sweet Ethan is a sleepy boy. He can fall asleep anywhere. He has fallen asleep while eating lunch in the noisy university cafeteria- he was actually chewing food that time. Once he fell asleep while swinging in the front yard. He fell out of the swing and woke up on the ground with a not so soft landing. He will go to sleep sometimes when he is playing ghost with a blanket over his head or hiding in one of his homemade tents. He is two and a half years old and is still taking an afternoon nap.
He has recently started getting up at 3:30 in the morning so I thought I would experiment with taking his afternoon nap away for a couple of days. The first day he couldn’t make it. He fell asleep sitting straight up beside me in the recliner (not unusual). He slept for an hour and a half before he even stirred. The second day he stayed awake but he turned into Dr. Evil by 5 o’clock. I didn’t try it a third day. It seemed obvious that the child still needs his nap, even if he is getting up sometimes in the middle of the night.
I don’t know how long he will willingly take an afternoon nap but I guess I should enjoy as long as it lasts. I will also continue to enjoy taking pictures of him sleeping wherever his little body lands.
